Rampur: Following the directions of the
Supreme Court,
Azam Khan, Samajwadi Party leader and Rampur MLA, on Tuesday appeared before Judge Alok Dubey of the Special MP/MLA court to seek a regular bail. After listening to the arguments of both prosecution and defence, the court granted regular bail to Azam Khan.
Giving details about the case, district government counsel Arun Prakash Saxena said Azam was booked for fraudulently obtaining an affiliation certificate of Yateem khana Rampur Public School from the authorities.
He is the chairman of the Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar Trust, which runs the three branches of Rampur Public School and the Yateem khana branch is one of them.
Zubair Ahmad Khan, Supreme Court advocate, defence counsel for Azam, said, “The prosecution failed to establish before the court that Azam Khan had fraudulently obtained the affiliation certificate from the office of the basic education officer to run the Yateem khana branch.”
In 2020, on a complaint by divisional education officer Prem Singh Rana , an FIR was registered against “unidentified accused persons” at Sadar Kotwali police station. During the investigation, the police had chargesheeted Azam’s wife, Tanzeen Fatima, and one more person, with cheating.
Later, Fatima was granted bail and Azam’s name was added,, accusing him of forgery.
